How is plant milk produced?

Plant milk, as its name suggests, is obtained from selected plants. This process is based on finely grinding and mixing appropriate ingredients with water. Nonetheless, it is worth remembering that its exact course depends primarily on the type of plant from which the product is made. To better illustrate the subsequent stages of its production, we will use an example of the production of the increasingly popular soy milk.

Stage 1. Soy is thoroughly soaked in water. The process usually takes from a couple to a dozen days.

Stage 2. Next, the soaked soy is ground to a smooth paste.

Stage 3. The product is mixed with water in the right proportions.

Stage 4. The watery paste is cooked for approximately 20 minutes. During this time, soy proteins are formed and evaporate from the rest of the mass.

Stage 5. A liquid called soy milk is obtained. It has to be drained and filtered before becoming safe to drink.

Plant milk and its properties - how is it different from cow milk?

As for the differences between plant milk and cow's milk, they are noticeable primarily in terms of the composition, taste and nutritional properties of these products. The former contains fewer proteins but at the same time more carbohydrates, omega-3 and omega-6 vegetable fats. In addition, it is often enriched with the following vitamins: D, B12, A, E, and K. Its consumption is recommended mainly for people who are allergic to lactose present in cow's milk. Thanks to this property, it facilitates weight loss. The large variety of flavours of plant products also makes it easier to find the one that suits your palate.

The most popular plant milk varieties

As we mentioned, plant milk can be produced from multiple types of plants. However, the varieties most popular on shop shelves include these three:

Soy milk - is low in calories and therefore is recommended to be consumed during a weight loss process. Its low cholesterol level makes it a worthy addition to the diet of those who have heart problems. Although it is not obtained in a way typical for e.g. cow's milk, it provides the human body with a large amount of protein. In addition, it does not contain gluten, and its production is more environmentally friendly than this of animal-sourced products.

Oat milk – like other kinds of plant milk, it does not contain lactose. In return, it provides a large amount of unsaturated (healthy) fatty acids which facilitate lowering cholesterol levels. The product is rich in fibre which improves bowel function and helps regulate blood sugar levels. Oat milk contains vitamins B and E as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. It is low in calories and easy to digest. It is perfect to prepare healthy soups, coffees, teas, cocktails, and muesli.

Almond milk - is low-calorie and, at the same time, provides a large amount of vitamins E, D, A as well as minerals in the form of calcium, magnesium, and potassium. It is a type of milk suitable for people intolerant to lactose, trying to lose weight, as well as vegans and vegetarians. It is characterized by an exceptionally delicate taste and is easy to digest even when consuming large amounts of the product.
